Canal Winchester hands Teays Valley first conference loss

ASHVILLE — Canal Winchester hit several big pass plays in beating host Teays Valley 30-10.

With TV leading 3-0 in the first, CW’s Quinton McGhee connected with Dennis White for a 49-yard score and a 7-3 lead.

In the second quarter, the Indians added a five-yard rushing TD from Toreion Brooks and TV responded with a 26-yard scoring run from Griffin Gray to make it 14-10 midway through the period. 

But the Indians came back with a 40-yard scoring pass from McGhee to Iverson Klusman and CW was up 21-10 at the break.

CW added a 27-yard scoring pass from McGhee to White late in the third and took advantage of a TV turnover to add a 44-yard field goal early in the fourth to wrap up the scoring.

Carson Payne led the Vikings in rushing with 90 yards on 15 carries ad Gray had 37 yards on nine attempts. 

Brady Farmer was 3-7 passing for 63 yards with an interception. Peter Graham had two of the catches for 44 yards. 

Brooks led CW with 60 yards on 23 carries and McGhee had 211 yards passing as he hit 10 of 17 attempts.

White had four catches for 90 yards and Klusmann had two for 82.

Long-time Mid-State League rivals, this was the first meeting for the two schools as Ohio Capital Conference foes but 33rd overall. CW holds a 20-13 edge in the series and the Indians have won the last 10 matchups dating back to 2007.

The Vikings (5-2, 3-1) head to Newark next week.
