ASHVILLE — Teays Valley doesn’t mind when Briggs comes to Ashville for a playoff game.
The 31-14 Teays Valley win was only the second playoff win for the Vikings, the first coming in the 2020 COVID season when they beat Briggs 68-0.
The Vikings (7-4) entered the playoffs this season as the seventh seed in Division II’s Region 7 with Briggs (6-5) a 10 seed.
TV was in control most of the night.
The Bruins tried to get an early edge when they had a successful onside kick to start the game but managed only two first downs.

A steady diet of runs from Peter Graham highlighted TV’s opening drive as the sophomore carried the ball on nine plays and even caught a pass before Brady Farmer finished off the 14-play effort with an 18-yard scoring run.
After holding the Bruins without a first down on the next series, TV answered with an eight-play drive that stalled at the 20-yard line. But senior Maxwell Spencer drilled a 37-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Briggs’ ensuing possession lasted five-and-a-half minutes but netted only 11 yards as the Bruins were penalized five times and the drive came to an end when TV senior Tyler Matthews intercepted a pass with 3:18 on the clock.
TV grabbed a first down but was facing fourth-and-11 from the Bruins’ 43 and elected to go for it. The screen play was unsuccessful giving the ball to Briggs with 1:01 on the clock.
Having picked up a first down and time now almost gone, Briggs’ quarterback Jason Burton heaved a second-down pass downfield where Cameron Griffith hauled it in and scored on a 42-yard play as the scoreboard clock went to zeroes. A failed pass play had TV up 10-6 at halftime.

The second half had Teays Valley find the endzone on its first three possessions. (The Vikings’ fourth possession came at the end of the game where they ran out the clock.)
TV added touchdowns on an 11-yard run from Cavin McDowell, a six-yard run from Carson Payne and a 43-yard pass from Farmer to McDowell.
Penalized 16 times through the first three quarters, Briggs was penalty free in the final period which helped the Bruins put together an 11-play drive that covered 73 yards and wrapped up with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Aquino Solomon to Romans Ward.
Grahm led the Vikings in rushing with 67 yards on 14 carries and Framer had 52 yards on eight runs.
Farmer also had 99 yards passing with McDowell catching three balls for 60 yards.
Thanks to 15 seed Worthington Kilbourne pulling off a 29-26 upset of No. 2 Walnut Ridge, the Vikings will get one more game on their home turf as they welcome the Wolves (5-6) next week.
