Circleville 57, Bloom-Carroll 55
CARROLL — Circleville came through with a big fourth quarter to grab a 57-55 road win against Bloom-Carroll Friday night.
“I’m really proud of our guys fight and poise tonight,” Circleville coach Evan Callihan said. “We talked Thursday about anytime you go on the road you have to raise everything that you do and our guys did that. I thought they competed consistently with a winning attitude and toughness. We focus a lot on these habits and I think it showed through tonight in a positive way.”
The Tigers fell behind 50-43 early in the fourth, but then held their hosts scoreless for the next five minutes.
During the span, Ed Kirk scored twice and then Jack Kline hit a three to tie the score. Kole Nungester scored with four minutes left to put Circleville up two and Kline hit another three with 2:30 remaining for a 55-50 lead.
Park Truex broke BC’s scoring drought with a bucket a few seconds later and then a three-pointer from Caleb Hinkel tied the score with 1:12 showing.
With the game down to five seconds, Nungester capped a 26-point night by sinking a pair of free throws to give Circleville the win.
“Kole Nungester set the tone right out the gate scoring 10 points in the first quarter. He made big time play after big time play,” Callihan said. “He’s the one we wanted to have the ball in his hands at the end and he got to the line and made two free throws that ultimately gave us the win.
“Kole has been a great leader for us since June and he’s the ultimate competitor. I’m proud of what he did for us tonight. I don’t think many realize how tough it is to step up at the end and bury two free throws like he did at the end.”
Riley Jenkins had 13 for Circleville and Kirk added eight.
Tryce Chaffin and Truex led BC with 20 points each.
“Riley Jenkins made some big plays for us all night. Riley is a consistent scorer for us but his defense was huge for us tonight. He held their post player to only two points which was one of the keys we had,” Callihan said. “Jack Kline, Drew Thornsley and Kiser Cassidy all stepped up for us defensively in the second half. We were able to get stops on their two main scorers in the fourth quarter and it was a total team effort.”

CIRCLEVILLE — Miami Trace won the fourth quarter to defeat host Logan Elm 52-46 Friday.
LE had a 34-33 lead entering the final period, but the Panthers had a 19-12 advantage over the last eight minutes to get the win.
Ne’miah Waugh led the Braves with 13 points and Tyler Speas put in 10.
Adam Guthrie led all scorers as he put in 20 for MT. Gage Bowers and Skye Salyers each added 11.
