CIRCLEVILLE — After briefly trailing, New Hope took the lead midway through the first quarter and never let it go on the way to beating Cincinnati Christian 63-49 Saturday.

Helped by eight points from Cook in the period, New Hope extended the lead to 52-37 entering the final quarter.

The Cougars (3-3) were unable to get any closer than 12 points in the fourth period.

“We were very pleased with our effort and our poise tonight. We answered every run they made at us,” New Hope coach Shane Roese said. “We got stops and made shots at all the critical spots.

“They pressured us all night with the half court press in an attempt to slow us down and I felt we were really patient and handled it well. The key tonight was our defense. Our concern was their transition points and their offensive rebounding. We were able to hold both in check and that made the difference.”

Rink led the Statesmen (7-1) with 19 points, Ames had 18, Cook 14 and Hunter Cavanaugh put in 10.

New Hope returns to action Saturday as the Statesmen host Minford at Ohio Christian University.
