Tigers, Vikings snag wins; Aces fall on the road

Circleville 35, Washington Court House 28

CIRCLEVILLE — Circleville held Washington in the final minutes to improve to 2-0 on the season with a 35-28 win over the Blue Lions.

Washington had trailed by 15 early in the final period, cut it to eight with 5:33 left and got the ball inside Circleville’s 20 as the clock ticked past two minutes. The Tigers’ defense held on and got the ball back on downs to allow the offense to run out the clock.

Circleville started the game’s scoring with a touchdown pass from Hudson Phalin to Kole Nungester midway through the first quarter.

The Blue Lions scored twice before the quarter ended. Both scoring plays came on backwards screen passes to Aden Osborne. He ran the first one in from 29 yards out and the second from 60 yards. Both PAT kicks failed leaving Washington up 12-7 and that’s where the score stood at halftime.

Circleville opened the scoring in the second half when Ray Ezell ran it in from 23 yards out.

The Blue Lions answered with an eight-yard scoring pass from Sam Pfeiffer to Noah Haithcock and then connected on a two-point pass to go up 20-14 with 6:39 left in the third.

The next three scores came from the host Tigers.

Phalin scored on a one-yard run with 5:15 on the clock and Nungester had an eight-yard scoring run with 3:39 left in the third.

Nungester extended Circleville’s lead with a one-yard run in the opening minute of the fourth. Kaden Paxton’s fifth PAT kick of the night put Circleville up 35-20.

The Blue Lions closed to a single score when Pfeifer connected with Bryson Heath with 5:33 left in the game and Joel Perack converted the PAT kick.

Circleville makes its first road trip of the season next week with a trip to Westfall (2-0).

Teays Valley 14, Bloom-Carroll 0

ASHVILLE — Teays Valley and visiting Bloom-Carroll had struggles finding the endzone for much of the night Friday before the Vikings broke through at the end of the third on the way to a 14-0 win.

After a scoreless first half, things weren’t going much better in the third period.

Late in the third, the teams threw interceptions on back-to-back plays. The Vikings then fumbled the ball away on the second play after their interception. BC ran a couple more plays before losing a fumble.

TV’s Cavin McDowell picked up the loose ball and ran it back 64 yards. That led to a four-yard scoring run from Spike Woods a few plays later.

Woods added a second score in the fourth quarter.

Friday’s contest broke a five-game winning streak by the Bulldogs over the Vikings.

TV (1-1) heads to Watkins Memorial next week.

Licking Valley 28, Amanda-Clearcreek 14

NEWARK — Amanda-Clearcreek held a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, but host Licking Valley scored 28 unanswered to get the non-league win.
