ASHVILLE — In a game that stayed tight throughout, Teays Valley had a look at extending the game but couldn’t get it done as Logan left with a 55-52 win Friday night.
“It was back and forth all night. And that’s what we knew it was going to be, no one was going to blow anybody out here tonight,” TV coach Brian Barnett said. “And, you know, one possession here, one possession there, it comes down to, are you going to get the offensive board or are you going to give up an offensive board or are you going to make a play or are you not going to make a play?
“And, you know, they made a couple more plays than we did tonight.”
Through three quarters no team had led by more than five points and Logan briefly held a seven-point edge in the fourth.
The Vikings battled back and had it within a point with two minutes left and again after Mitchell Combs sunk a pair of free throws with 14 seconds on the clock.
Logan’s Hudson Edwards was fouled with eight seconds and sunk both free throws.
Teays Valley worked the ball down the court and got off a three, but it bounced off the rim. The Vikings got the rebound and got off another shot as time expired, but it too failed to fall.

It was the final home game for seniors Brody Fields and Kaden Purdon.
The two split TV’s 12 points in the first quarter.
“Those two guys were, you know, they put in so much time and have worked so hard at it,” Barnett said. “I think there for a while they were the only points for us in the first quarter. They did what seniors were supposed to do in that situation.
“And with the game on the line, who else are we going to go to? We’re going to go to Brody and or Kaden and get it to them. You know, those guys are good. I mean, there’s a lot of points leaving here, as soon as they graduate, as soon as their final game’s over.”
After each scoring six points in the first quarter, the two each ended with 18.
Edwards led Logan with 20 points, including going 8-8 from the line in the second half. Owen Bell had 13 and Carson Tootle put in 10. Tootle also pulled down 14 rebounds.
Purdon and Calvin Wolpert led the Vikings with eight rebounds each.
Overall, TV had a 35-31 rebounding edge in the game.

TV finishes up the regular season with a 9-13 record (3-11 in the OCC Buckeye) and will be in the middle of the Central District rankings for Division II once the weekend’s games are completed and the tournament brackets are announced Monday.
“Obviously we’d like to be one step, maybe two spots higher, but at least we’re not playing a one, two or three seed to start out with, like we have in years past,” Barnett said. “We’re optimistic about where we go, where we play and who we play. I think our matchups, for the most part, are pretty good. So, we’ll see where the luck of the draw puts us.”
