AMANDA — In a tight battle to the end, Teays Valley held off host Amanda-Clearcreek for a 58-51 win Saturday night.
Holding a three-point lead with less than a minute to play, Peyton Weiler and Eli Burgett converted their one-and-one opportunities to seal the win for the Vikings.

“Our kids did a good job battling down the stretch,” TV coach Brian Barnett said. “Give Amanda credit, they’re physical, they do things well and they hit some big shots. Our kids could’ve just folded, but we didn’t and that’s because we’ve got some senior leadership.
“When you have that leadership out of the (Camden) Primmers, the Burgetts, the (Garrett) Meddocks and guys like that, you’re going to be able to win games like this. And we’re getting some good play out of (Cameron) Dyas-Rogers, Peyton Weiler did a good job handling the ball and even our freshman, Luke Sachs, did a nice job tonight.”
The Vikings got out to an 8-0 start but that was the largest lead either team would have in the game.
TV ended the first quarter up 15-14. The lead bounced back and forth in the middle of the second quarter before the half ended with the Aces up 34-31.

The Vikings took the lead back late in the third when they scored seven points in a 55-second stretch to go up 43-39.
Twice in the fourth period the Aces closed to within one point but couldn’t get back on top.
“That 8-0 run to start the game got us in a hole and it’s hard to dig out of a situation like that,” AC coach Jamie Justus said. “There was a spurt there in the third quarter we had some turnovers and that was the difference in the game.
“Defensively, I thought it was a great effort, especially responding after the night we had against Logan Elm (a 46-19 loss). Offensively, we knocked down some shots early on there. In the fourth quarter we got some open looks and some free throws that we need to convert on and it’s probably a different ballgame if we make some of those layups and those open shots.”

The Vikings got offensive contributions from nine players Saturday led by Primmer with 14, Meddock with 10 and Burgett with nine.
Clayton Rhyne led the Aces with a game-high 21 points while Lane Stevens had 12 and Tayvon Miller had 11.
AC had a 35-31 rebounding edge with Rhyne grabbing six and Miller, Cade Young and Stevens each getting five. Primmer led TV with eight while Dyas-Rogers had six and Meddock had five.
