ASHVILLE — Jenna Horsley led the way with five three-pointers and three other Vikings scored in double figures as Teays Valley beat visiting Hamilton Township 85-30 Friday night.
“I’m more proud of them for bouncing back after a tough loss against Bloom-Carroll,” TV coach Trevor Younkin said, referring to a 41-36 loss earlier this week. “We did not play the best basketball as a team against Bloom-Carroll.
“For us to be able to handle the basketball, work the basketball, see the open girl, make that extra pass — it really makes me very proud after what we’ve talked about the last couple days coming off that loss. We needed this opportunity to get better, especially going into the tournament. If we can’t play like this, our season will be over pretty quick.”

The Rangers took an early 3-2 lead off a shot from Morgan Fannin but Jenna Horsley hit the first of her five threes as the Vikings scored the next 22 points and led 32-9 at the end of the quarter. TV was up 48-17 at the half and led 74-22 after three.
Horsley ended the night with 23 points while Kennedy Younkin had 16, Alyssa Horsley had 13 and Megan Bush scored 12.
Coach Younkin said the Vikings have benefited throughout the season having a number of players who can put points on the board.
“We’ve got opportunities to score inside with Kennedy, we’ve got outside shooters and we’ve also developed that mid-range jumper to try and take one dribble in and see what we’ve got. We’ve been more versatile than we have been,” he said. “We don’t have one player who’s going to get it for us every night, we can spread it around. With that being said, seeing what they did here tonight was nice to see. Knowing that we have more than one (scorer) is definitely a blessing.”
Helping the Vikings with their scoring was that they turned the ball over only once through three quarters and had just four for the game.
TV also outrebounded its visitors 39-17. Alyssa Brown led TV with nine and Ashley DeWeese had six.

Up next
The Vikings (12-8, 7-5) have another regular season game on the schedule at Amanda-Clearcreek Wednesday and postseason play begins next Friday against the winner of Tuesday’s Canal Winchester/Delaware Hayes game.
With the season almost complete, Younkin said the team remains vigilant about following COVID protocols.
“It’s an everyday talk,” he said.
With the team already going through two quarantine periods this season, they want to make sure there isn’t a third. “We try to make sure our girls are being as safe as possible – wearing their masks, staying away from people they’re not normally around, trying to limit their interactions with other people. The girls are saints about it. They actually do a better job sometimes than we do as coaches because they want to make sure they have their season.”
