Saturday’s roundup: Westfall baseball routs Madison-Plains

The Westfall baseball team scored nine times in its final three at-bats on Saturday to rout visiting Madison-Plains 10-2 in a non-conference game.

Madison-Plains actually led 2-1 entering the bottom of the fourth, but the Mustangs tied the game in their at-bat of the inning and then took a 5-2 advantage in the fifth.

The Mustangs pounded out 14 hits in the win, led by Luke Blackburn going a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Peyton Weiss followed with a 3-for-3 afternoon with four RBIs and two runs scored, Titan Williams was 2-for-3 and scored three ties, and Ashton Nunemaker and Caden Foreman both went 2-for-4. Nunemaker also scored and drove in a run.

Nathan Johnson started and earned the win, surrendering just two hits in five innings. He allowed two unearned runs, walked five and struck out nine.

The Mustangs (13-6, 10-2) host Zane Trace on Monday for a Scioto Valley Conference tilt. Westfall and Unioto are tied atop the SVC with two conference tilts remaining for each school.

Adena 2

Circleville claimed the lead for good with a two-run fourth on Saturday to defeat visiting Adena 4-2 in non-league action.
Nick Burns, Tate DeBord and Max Brooks each had a hit and an RBI for the Tigers.
Burns earned the win by tossing four and two-third innings of two-hit, two unearned run baseball. He walked one and sat down six Warriors. Jake Bell worked the final two and one-third innings, allowing a hit and striking out a batter, to nail down the save.
The Tigers (11-9) host Logan Elm on Monday for a Mid-State League Buckeye Division contest.
Teays Valley 6,
Thomas Worthington 1

Teays Valley stranded 10 Thomas Worthington baserunners on Saturday to return home with a 6-1 non-league win.
The Vikings scored once in the first and five times in the third to take a 6-0 lead.
Connor Russell provided the big blow of the third with a grand slam and finished the afternoon with a pair of base knocks.
Tommy Williams, Peyton Weiler, Landyn Brown, Landon Brent and Cole McDorman added two hits apiece.
Sam Sethna scattered nine hits over six innings and allowed an unearned run. He walked none and struck out four batters.
The Vikings (13-7) resume MSL-Buckeye play on Monday when they host Hamilton Township.
Softball
Teays Valley 2,
Cardington-Lincoln 1

Teays Valley rallied with a pair of runs in its final at-bat on Saturday to defeat Cardington-Lincoln 2-1 in a non-league game at Hillsdale High School.
Emma Helwagen opened the bottom of the seventh with a single to right and advanced to second on an infield single off the bat of Kennedy Cauger.
Kyra Darnell then sacrificed the runners over, but an error on the third baseman allowed her to reach and load the bases.
Reagan Mengerink worked a walk to force in Helwagen with the tying run. Following a strike out, Alexis Brown reached on an infield single that allowed Cauger to score with the winning run.
Jaimlynne Munson earned the win, allowing four hits and one earned run in the complete game effort. She walked a batter and struck out seven.
Hillsdale 4,
Teays Valley 3

After Teays Valley tied a non-league game in the top of the seventh, host Hillsdale walked off with the win in its half of the inning to claim a 4-3 win.
Mengerink led the Vikings by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and Kennedy Cauger singled and scored.
The Vikings (14-6) host Hamilton Township today for a league game.
