Friday’s roundup: Mustangs cruise past Buckeyes in softball sectional final

Olivia Dumm tossed a five-hitter on Friday, sending Westfall to a 12-0 run-rule win over Nelsonville-York in a Division III Southeast District sectional final.
The Westfall sophomore used 77 pitches over the five-inning contest, walked none and struck out 11 Buckeyes.
Westfall (22-5) took advantage of seven errors by Nelsonville-York (6-17) to score 10 unearned runs.
Maddie Mullins put the Mustangs ahead 1-0 in the first when she hit a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Delana Landefeld from third base.

The Mustangs put away the sectional final with a five-run second.
A squeeze by Maddison Kearney allowed Leah Ragland to score and put the Mustangs ahead 2-0.
After a bunt single by Ava Heath and Landefeld reaching on an error, a wild pitch allowed Kearney to score.

Following a ground out and Dumm being hit by a pitch, Mullins lined a double to right to score Health, Landefeld and Dumm to make it 6-0.
Westfall tacked on its final six runs in the fourth.
Landefeld crossed the plate three times for the Mustangs, and Dumm, Ragland and Heath scored twice apiece.
Westfall is slated to host Reedsville Eastern on Wednesday for a district semifinal.

Liberty Union 5

Amanda-Clearcreek took the lead for good in the fifth and added four insurance runs in the seventh on Friday to record a 10-5 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win over host Liberty Union.
Abby Carver went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored to help lead the Aces, Paige Alford turned in a 2-for-3 evening with three RBIs and a run scored, Logann Julian went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, Liberty Hopper contributed a 2-for-4 statline with two runs scored and Carly Singleton was 2-for-4 and scored.
Alford tossed the final three innings, allowing a hit, two walks and struck out seven batters to earn the win.
The Aces (15-4, 10-3) host Circleville today to close out league play for the season.

Luke Blackburn tossed a complete game four-hitter on Friday, sending Westfall to a 3-0 non-conference win over host Circleville.
Blackburn issued a pair of walk and struck out 15 batters.
Westfall broke a scoreless tie when it scored three times in the sixth inning.
Titan Williams tripled to right field to drive in Trent Walters and put the Mustangs ahead 1-0.
Following a walk to Blackburn, he stole second and an error on the play allowed Williams to score from third. Blackburn advanced to third on that play and scored on a single to left off the bat of Ashton Nunemaker.
Williams went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored for the Mustangs, and Nolan West was 2-for-3 to pace the Tigers.
The Tigers (13-14) host Athens on Monday to open the tournament, while the Mustangs (20-6) enter the postseason two days later when they entertain West Union.

Amanda-Clearcreek 1

Liberty Union broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth on Friday to defeat visiting Amanda-Clearcreek 2-1 in an MSL-Buckeye game.
Jacob Miller checked the Aces to a single each from Grant Guiler and Peyton Cassley and struck out 14 batters in the win.
