Wednesday’s roundup: Mustangs defeat Eagles in district softball semifinal

Olivia Dumm scattered seven hits over seven innings on Wednesday to help Westfall defeat visiting Reedsville Eastern 9-3 in a Division III Southeast District semifinal.
The Westfall sophomore allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out 11 batters.

Westfall took a 3-2 lead in the third inning and used a three-run blast off the bat of Abbie Bickenheuser to extend its advantage to 6-2 an inning later.
Delana Landefeld went a perfect 5-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, Bickenheuser was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Leah Ragland posted a 2-for-3 evening and Maddie Mullins chipped in a double and drove in a pair of runs.

The third-seeded Mustangs (23-5) travel to Unioto on Saturday for a district final against fourth-seeded Portsmouth, a 5-2 winner in its district semifinal against Coal Grove. First-pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

Watkins Memorial 10,
Teays Valley 3

Watkins Memorial used a six-run second inning to take the lead for good on Wednesday and defeat visiting Teays Valley 10-3 in a Division I Central District final.
The Vikings scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth.
Emma Helwagen went 3-for-4 to lead the Vikings and scored twice, Faith Thompson was 2-for-4, Reagan Mengerink turned in a 2-for-3 evening and Morgan Cantrell doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
The Vikings finish the season at 19-9 and say thank you to seniors Kyra Darnell and Alexis Brown.
Baseball
Westfall 15,
West Union 0

Westfall pounded out 14 hits and routed visiting West Union 15-0 on Wednesday in a five-inning Division III Southeast District sectional semifinal.
The Scioto Valley Conference co-champion Mustangs scored seven runs in the first and tacked on eight more in the second.
Ashton Nunemaker went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Luke Blackburn accounted for a 2-for-3 evening with two RBIs and two runs scored and Caden Foreman was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Peyton Weiss pitched three innings, allowed a hit, walked a batter and struck out five to earn the win. Nathan Johnson tossed the final two frames, allowing a hit and striking out a pair of batters.
The fourth-seeded Mustangs (21-6) are slated to host Meigs, a 6-4 winner in its tournament opener against Belpre, on Saturday for a sectional final.
Olentangy 7,
Teays Valley 0

Austin Sizemore turned in a three-hitter and struck out seven batters on Wednesday, sending Olentangy to a 7-0 win over host Teays Valley in a Division I Central District sectional final.
The Braves (14-1!) scored twice in the third and put away the win with a five-run fourth.
Tommy Williams, Peyton Weiler and Connor Russell each recorded a hit for the Vikings (17-10).
