Three county athletes qualify for state

Three Pickaway County athletes qualified for the Division II state track and field meet on Thursday during regional competition held at Southeastern High School outside of Chillicothe.

Logan Elm’s Annie Karshner finished fourth in the shot put on Thursday to qualify for the Division II state meet.

Logan Elm junior Annie Karshner tossed the shot put 35-07 feet on her third of six attempts to place fourth and grab the final qualifying spot to Pickerington North (home of this year’s divisional state meet).

Karshner’s toss bested her district effort by five inches.

Steubenville’s Amya Livingston won the regional title in 41-10 feet, followed by Warren’s Millie Ryan (39-01.25 feet) and John Glenn’s Chelsea Sotherden (35-08 feet).

In the boys pole vault, Westfall junior Tyler Shipley improved 14 inches off his district effort to clear 13-08 feet on his second attempt and claim bronze in the event.

Circleville sophomore Zach Buitendorp bested his district effort by four inches and cleared 13-04 feet on his third and final attempt to advance with a fourth-place showing.

Indian Valley’s David Adams won the regional crown in 14-08 feet and West Holmes’ Emmett Myers placed second in 14-feet.

Regional competition concludes on Saturday at Southeastern.
