Vikings open spring break trip with 3-2 win

Brandon Smith helped Teays Valley wiggle out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning on Sarurday by striking out Lucas Gupton to end the game and send the Vikings to a 3-2 non-league win over Davidson Academy on their spring break trip to Clarksville, Tenn.
The Vikings had entered the seventh with a 3-0 lead.
Teays Valley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. Tommy Williams opened the bottom half of the inning by reaching on an infield single.
Williams then stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by A.J. Moniaci.
Will Murphy then smacked an 0-1 offering to left that scored Williams.
The Vikings went back to work in the third to score their final two runs.
Tyler Love doubled to left and Williams followed by reaching on a bunt. After Williams stole second, Peyton Weiler hit an 0-1 pitch to center that drove in both runners.
Williams went 2-for-3 and scored twice and Weiler was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI to lead the Vikings.
Adam Trisler earned the win by allowing two hits and a pair of earned runs over six innings. He walked three and struck out six in the 91-pitch outing. Smith nailed down the save.
The Vikings (3-1) continue their stay in the Volunteer State today when they take on Clarksville.
