Rangers rally in second half for 24-17 win over Vikings

Hamilton Township scored 17 straight points in the second half on Friday to rally from a halftime deficit and defeat visiting Teays Valley 24-17.

After opening scoring in the third quarter with a 31-yard field goal, the Rangers tied the game later in the period on an 84-yard touchdown strike from Josh Woods to Omarion Medley.

The Rangers took their first lead since the second quarter with 5:06 remaining on a 26-yard touchdown connection from Woods to AJ Cain-Jackson.

The night started off on a positive note for the Vikings with a 26-yard field goal from Cale Clifton to take a 3-0 lead.

Hamilton Township responded with only 13 ticks left in the opening quarter on an 11-yard touchdown run by Zak Dawson to take a 7-3 lead.

The Vikings scored twice in the second quarter on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Kaden Hines to Harrison Payne and a one-yard plunge over the goal line courtesy of Gavin Karshner to take a 17-7 advantage into halftime.

Woods threw a trio of interceptions – two to Richard Odum and one to Hayden Wells – but the HT signal-caller also had his moments completing 8 of 16 passes for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns. AJ Cain-Jackson caught three of those passes for 61 yards and a touchdown.

The Rangers outgained the Vikings 359-280. Dawson led the Rangers on the ground with 58 yards on 16 totes and a score.

Hines completed 11 of 18 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown for the Vikings. Payne caught four of those passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, and Trent Wolpert chipped in five receptions for 58 yards.

Karshner paced the Vikings on the ground with 25 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown.

The Vikings (3-3, 2-1) host Circleville (4-2, 1-2), a 50-19 winner last night over Amanda-Clearcreek next week, while the Rangers (3-2, 2-1) entertain Amanda-Clearcreek.
