Tigers flex defense to put away Rangers

Circleville didn’t allow a field goal for the opening 14 minutes of a Mid-State League Buckeye Division game on Tuesday en route to a 42-24 win over visiting Hamilton Township.

“We played well and executed our defensive game plan as well as we have all season,” Circleville coach Brian Bigam said. “Hamilton Township didn’t score for the first 14 minutes of the game and when they did, it was on a banked in three-pointer.

“I was really proud of how hard the girls played.”

The Tigers allowed the Rangers just three field goals during the first half, with two of those coming from Alexis Wooten, to take a 20-8 lead into halftime.

Faith Yancey helped the Tigers get off to a quick start with three baskets in a first quarter that ended with Circleville holding a 10-0 lead.

Morgan Blakeman scored five points in the second quarter and then knocked down a trio of three-pointers in the third quarter.

“Morgan shot the ball extremely well and she got us going offensively,” Bigam said.

Maddie Blakeman scored three traditional baskets, as well, coming out of halftime, as the Tigers took a 37-11 lead into the final period of play.

Circleville’s Morgan Blakeman, seen here in a game earlier this month, led all scorers with 18 points on Tuesday against Hamilton Township.

Morgan Blakeman led all scorers with 18 points, Maddie Blakeman tallied 10, Yancey contributed eight points and Gabby McConnell added six for the Tigers.

Six of Hamilton Township’s eight field goals came from three-point range. Wooten paced the Rangers (3-6, 2-5) with 10 points.

The Tigers (6-3, 4-3) are slated to host Frontier Athletic Conference-leading Jackson on Friday, weather permitting.
