ASHVILLE — Teays Valley dominated its competition Saturday winning all five matchups at the Bob Thurston Duals.
The Vikings won 58 of their 70 individual matches Saturday as they defeated Westland 69-12, Westerville 69-9, Tri-Valley 70-12, Centerburg 67-9 and Reynoldsburg 60-24.
The event was renamed this year in honor of Thurston, a former Viking wrestler, who passed away the fall of 2021.
“I would like to thank all of our fans and alumni that came out to support us,” TV coach Todd Nace said. “This was a great way to remember Bobby Thurston.”
Teays Valley was undefeated in nine weight classes — Ava Miller (3-0) and Aiden Timson (2-0) at 106 pounds, Gunner Havens at 113, Josh Zimmer at 120, Braxton Sheets at 132, Roman Younger at 138, Aiden Kennedy (1-0) and Owen Robinett (4-0) at 150, Cam McDanel at 190, Karshner at 215 and Joey Thurston at heavyweight.
Austin Blackburn went 4-1 on the day wrestling matches in the 157 and 165-pound weight classes and Ethan Schwalbauch went 4-1 at 175 pounds. Owen Robinett was 4-0 wrestling at 150 pounds.
The Vikings will be hosting Bishop Watterson – ranked fourth in the state in Division II – Wednesday. Middle school matches begin at 5:30 with the high school to follow.
MECHANICSBURG — Ava Miller took second place Sunday at the Heart of Ohio High School and Middle School Invitational held at Mechanicsburg High School.
The Teays Valley junior pinned her first three opponents Sunday to advance to the title match in the 110-pound weight class. Miller (22-2) lost to Brooksville’s Molly Luebke (13-1) by pin at the 3:20 mark to finish second.
TV freshman Madi Hamilton opened her tournament at the 140-pound weight class with a pin before dropping her next two matches.
Circleville’s Summer Blair was competing in the 110-pound weight class and lost both her matches.
Miller and Hamilton accounted for 27 team points, which placed the Vikings 32nd out of 68 teams.
