District finals returning to Basketball :30

To steal a line from the voice of the Convocation Center, Lou Horvath, it will soon be time to rock ‘n roll in the Convo.

That’s because Ohio University is slated to host the Southeast District boys basketball finals for the first time since 2020 in March and will again host regional tournaments in Divisions II-IV for a second consecutive season.

In addition, the Convo will host a Division I regional final for the first time to accommodate the larger crowd that overflowed venues such as Ohio Dominican University in central Ohio.

The district finals for the past two seasons were played at a neutral high school site due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while the regional tournaments in 2021 were also held at neutral high school sites for the same reason.

Sectional games in the district will once again be played at the higher seed, and district semifinals will be contested at neutral high school sites, a departure from pre-pandemic tradition.

Two Division IV district finals will be contested on March 2nd inside the Convo, followed by three district finals — one in Division II and two in Division III — on March 5th.

Regional semifinal games will be held from March 7-9, with regional finals on March 10-11.

Doors to the Convo will open 75 minutes before tip-off of the first game.

Parking will cost $5 for high school basketball events, with accessible parking available in Lot 128 of the Convocation Center that wraps around the north and west sides of the building. General admission parking will be available in Convo Lot 127, Stocker Center Lot 111 and Peden Lot 132.

Ohio University has a century-plus history of hosting high school basketball postseason contests.
