Vikings put away Chieftains with four-run sixth

Teays Valley scored four runs in the sixth inning on Tuesday to pull away from visiting Logan for a 7-2 non-league win.
Logan had both of its hits in the first as it jumped out to a 2-0 lead.


The Vikings countered in their half of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.


Michelle Brumfield was hit by a pitch and was joined on the base pads one out later when Micah Mann reached on an error. Reagan Mengerink followed with a single to left that chased home both runners.

The Vikings went ahead in their next at-bat.

Sydney Manring was hit by a pitch with two outs, advanced to second on single to left by Brumfield and scored on a single to right off the bat of Morgan Cantrell.

Teays Valley’s Morgan Cantrell, seen here sliding safely into home in a game earlier this season, had two hits and drove in a pair of runs on Tuesday in a 7-2 win over Logan.

The Vikings scored their final four runs with two outs in the sixth.

Alyvia Lawrentz singled to left and Abbi Revalee then singled to right to drive in Lawrentz.

Following a walk to Brumfield, Cantrell singled to right to knock in Revalee.

Micah Mann then turned on the first pitch she saw and doubled to center, driving in both Brumfield and Cantrell.

Cantrell went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Vikings.

Isabel Sayre tossed four scoreless innings of relief and struck out four and Lawrentz finished the final frame and struck out the side.

The Vikings (11-2) resume Mid-State League Buckeye Division play on Wednesday when they host Hamilton Township.
