Vikings run-rule Aces in five innings

Teays Valley scored in each of its final four at-bats on Thursday to run-rule host Amanda-Clearcreek 16-0 in a Mid-State League Buckeye Division game that lasted five innings.

The Vikings grabbed the lead for good when they dented the plate three times in the second.

Reagan Mengerink reached on an infield single to second and advanced to second one out later on a single to right off the bat of Aimee DeWeese.

Isabel Sayre then reached on a fielder’s choice that took DeWeese off the base pads.

Alyvia Lawrentz followed with a two-run double to center to score both Mengerink and Sayre.

Lawrentz then came around to score on a single to center off the bat of Sydney Manring.

Alyssa Brown put the Vikings ahead 5-0 in the third when she hit a two-run homer over the right field fence that also scored Micah Mann, who earlier reached on a single to right.

Teays Valley scored five more runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to wrap-up its 24th straight league win dating back to 2021.

Mengerink went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer in the fourth, four RBI and three runs scored, Mann also turned in a 3-for-4 line in the scorebook with two RBI and two runs scored and Brown continued the pace by going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored to lead the Vikings. DeWeese, Morgan Cantrell, Manring and Sayre added two hits apiece. Sayre scored three runs, Manring drove in two runners and scored, and Cantrell scored twice and drove in a run.

Carly Singleton had the lone hit of the game for the Aces with a single.

Sayre earned the win, allowing a hit, walking two and striking out one in three innings. Lawrentz walked a batter and struck out one in the final two frames.

The Aces (5-8, 2-6) host Miami Trace on Saturday for a non-league doubleheader and the Vikings (17-2, 8-0) continue league play on Monday when they host Bloom-Carroll.
