Vikings set tempo early to defeat Aces

Teays Valley never trailed on Thursday as it claimed a 9-1 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win over host Amanda-Clearcreek.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first when a bases loaded walk to Matt Farmer forced in Landen McFarland.

Teays Valley expanded its advantage to 4-0 in the third.

Landon Vandegrift singled to left to open the inning and was joined on the base pads when Ivan Smith worked a walk.

Following a pair of outs, Brody Mann lined a three-run homer over the right field fence.

Teays Valley blew the game open with a four-run fourth and scored its final run in the fifth.

Jeremiah Fabbro went a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored, Hayden Wells was 2-for-3 to lead the Vikings, who won for the 100th time under coach Mark Colburn’s tenure.

Ben France tossed a complete game, allowing four hits and an unearned run. He walked a batter, hit five and struck out nine.
Brody Elder had a pair of singles to pace the Aces.


The Aces (2-10, 1-7) host Briggs on Saturday for a non-league doubleheader, while the Vikings (9-3, 6-1) continues league play when they host league unbeaten Bloom-Carroll (10-2, 5-0).
