Tigers conclude suspended game by grounding Falcons

Circleville scored four runs in its first two at-bats of a Mid-State League Buckeye Division game and went on to post a 5-2 win on Tuesday over host Fairfield Union.

The game picked back up in the fourth with the Tigers holding a 4-2 advantage they had garnered last Friday before inclement weather suspended the game.

Austin Gray was hit by a pitch with two outs in the first. He advanced to second when Tate DeBord lined a single to left and scored on an error by the right fielder on a lined single off the bat of JD Reuter.

Back-to-back one out doubles by Drew Thornsley and Matt Bradley doubled the CHS advantage and Nolan West followed with a single to center that scored Bradley.

West advanced to second on the throw home, later moved to third on a passed ball and scored one out later on an infield single to short courtesy of Gray.

Fairfield Union scored both of its runs in the third to trim the CHS lead to 4-2.

The only run scored when play resumed came when DeBord jumped on the first pitch he saw in the fifth inning and smacked a solo shot over the right field fence.

DeBord went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored and Reuter also went 2-for-4 for the Tigers, who avenged a 9-3 loss to the Falcons during the first round of league play.

Reuter worked five and one-third innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. He walked three, hit a batter and struck out five. DeBord notched the save by recording the final five hits, allowing a hit, a walk and striking out a batter.

The Tigers (11-6, 6-3) continue league play on Wednesday at Amanda-Clearcreek.
