Vikings drop two spots in latest poll

The Teays Valley softball team is ranked for the third consecutive week in the Division I poll released on Monday by the Ohio Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The Vikings (19-3) did fall two sports in the latest poll, going from seventh to ninth, following an 8-0 loss last week to Lancaster, which returned to the poll this week, coincidently, ranked one spot behind Teays Valley.

Holland Springfield took over the top spot in the poll and is followed by Watkins Memorial in second. Gahanna is the fourth Central District power to appear in this week’s poll, as the Lions are ranked sixth.

Teays Valley’s Reagan Mengerink gets a high five from coach Derrick Hastler after she hit a home run earlier this season against Circleville. The Vikings are ranked ninth this week in the Division I state poll.

The Southeast District has a pair of top-ranked teams in unbeatens Athens (Division II) and Wheelersburg (Division III). Scioto Valley Conference-leading Unioto is ranked fourth in Division II.

The Vikings are a win away from clinching at least a share of their second consecutive Mid-State League Buckeye Division championship.

Teays Valley is slated to host Liberty Union on Wednesday for a league game.
