Vikings use three-run sixth to edge Westerville North

Teays Valley rallied by scoring three runs in the sixth inning on Saturday to edge visiting Westerville North 3-2 in non-league action.

Westerville North scored once in the first and again in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead.

Landon Vandegrift led off the home sixth by lining a single off the pitcher.

Following a sacrifice bunt by Ivan Smith and a walk to Trevor Hamilton, Matt Farmer jumped on the first pitch he saw and singled to left to drive in Vandegrift.

After a fly out, back-to-back walks to Thomas Sites and Brody Mann forced in Hamilton with the tying run.

Hayden Wells then reached on an infield single to short that scored pinch-runner Maddox Rohner.

Farmer and Wells each went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Vandegrift was 2-for-3 and scored to pace the Vikings.

Mann worked six and one-third innings and allowed five hits and a pair of earned runs. He hit three batters and struck out three. Wells came on and retired the final two batters on nine pitches to nail down the save.

The Vikings (13-6) continue non-league play on Monday when they host Frontier Athletic Conference champion Washington Court House.
