Cline’s three-hitter helps Braves blank Vinton County

Grant Cline pitched a three-hitter on Sunday to lead Logan Elm to a 4-0 win over visiting Vinton County in a Division II Southeast District sectional quarterfinal.

Cline needed 104 pitches, 71 of which were strikes, to author his complete game that included issuing a pair of walks, hitting a batter and striking out 10.

Logan Elm scored a run in its first at-bat to give Cline an early lead.

Zack Parks lined a single to center with one out and advanced to second when Zane Seimer lined a single to left.

Keegan Diehl reached on a fielder’s choice and was then out on a fielder’s choice hit into by Mason Gentry that allowed Parks to score.

The Braves scored three more runs in the second to push their advantage to 4-0.

Carson Summers lined a single to center with one out, advanced to second when Aaron Walters reached on an error and scored when Kyle Rine lined a single to center.

After Parks was hit by a pitch, Seimer hit a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Walters to dent the dish. An error by the catcher on the throw home allowed Rine to also come around to score.


Summers went 2-for-3 and scored to lead the Braves (7-18), who continue tournament action on Monday at top-seeded Washington Court House.
