Pat Durbin selected as next MSL commissioner

The Mid-State League announced on Wednesday the appointment of Pat Durbin as the new league commissioner, effective July 1, 2023. Durbin will be succeeding Jim Hayes, who has served as the commissioner of the league for the last 12 years.

Durbin, who is currently the Athletic Director at Canal Winchester, will be retiring from CW at the end of December to take on this new responsibility.

With a remarkable track record in sports administration and a deep understanding of the MSL, Durbin is well-prepared to lead the league into an exciting new era. Having spent significant time working closely with member schools, coaches, and student-athletes, he brings a wealth of experience and a passion for fostering excellence in interscholastic athletics.

Throughout his tenure as Athletic Director at Canal Winchester, Durbin has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, effective communication skills, and a commitment to the development and success of student-athletes both on and off the field. His dedication to fair play, integrity, and sportsmanship has earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers.

As the new league commissioner, Durbin will oversee all aspects of the Mid-State League’s operations, including scheduling, rules and regulations, and coordination of league-wide events. He will work closely with member schools, athletic directors, and coaches to ensure the continued growth and success of the league, fostering an environment that promotes healthy competition, teamwork, and positive experiences for student-athletes.

“I am truly honored and excited to take on the role of league commissioner for the Mid-State League,” Durbin said. “I have been fortunate to work alongside incredible individuals throughout my career, and I look forward to continuing that collaborative spirit in this new capacity. My focus will be on supporting our member schools, nurturing the development of student-athletes, and upholding the values and traditions that make the Mid-State League so special.”

The Mid-State League would like to express its gratitude to Jim Hayes for his dedicated service as commissioner. Under his leadership, the league has grown in prominence and achieved numerous milestones. Jim’s contributions and commitment to the Mid-State League have been invaluable, and his guidance will be greatly missed.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Pat Durbin as he assumes the role of league commissioner for the Mid-State League. The league is confident that his expertise, integrity, and passion for interscholastic athletics will further elevate the reputation and success of the Mid-State League.
