Cline competes in Div II championships

SUNBURY — Logan Elm’s Grant Cline battled a tough Division II field over the weekend at the state golf championships to notch a 45th-place finish.

The junior was part of a field of the 72 top golfers from around the state that converged on NorthStar Golf Club Friday and Saturday. 

Cline posted an opening round of 87 and battled tough conditions on Saturday for an 89. His two-day score of 176 tied him with Bryce Kelley (Sheridan), Drew Mothersbaugh (Manchester – New Franklin) and Thomas Pesa (Ursuline).

The overall state championship went to Wyoming junior Finley Bartlett who shot a two-day score of 146 (74-72). That was two shots better than Clinton-Massie junior Andy Steed. 

Archbishop Alter was 51 shots better than the rest of the field to claim the team title. 

Alter had a two-day score of 596 while Wyoming was second with a 647.

Sheridan, which took second at the Crown Hill district tournament, placed 10th with a 708 and Wheelersburg, which won at Crown Hill, was 12th with 731.
