Lady Mustangs, LE’s Cline compete at Day 1 of state championships

Mustangs seventh at OSU Grey

COLUMBUS — Westfall is sitting in seventh place after the first day of the girls Division II state golf championships.

The Mustangs have a team score of 365 playing at Ohio State’s Grey Course.

Columbus Academy and Garaway are battling each other for the state title with Academy shooting a team 307 Friday and Garaway a 311. Independence is in third with a 354. 

Paige Weiss is leading the Mustangs with a round of 77 on Friday. Michelle Pickett shot 95, Caroline Sever shot 96 and Marianna Packer rounded out the scoring with a 97. Alexa Oney shot 107 for the Mustangs. 

Weiss’ round of 77 was seventh best on the day.

The low round on Friday belonged to Laurel’s Siena Mashcke with a 70.

The Mustangs begin play in round two at 9:50 a.m. Saturday. 

Cline competing in D2 championships

SUNBURY — Logan Elm junior Grant Cline put together an opening round of 87 at the Division II boys state golf championships being held at NorthStar Golf Club. 

Cline shot 41-46 putting him in a tie for 40th in the 72-man field. 

The low round of the day belonged to Will Swigart of Ottawa Hills who shot 70. 

Archbishop Alter is leading the team battle with a 294 while Wyoming is in second with a 319.

Cline continues play at 10:40 Saturday.
