Rain washes out final day of golf championships

Weather played a number on the Division II state golf championships being held in the Dayton area Tuesday as both the boys and the girls had their second rounds canceled partway in leading to champions being declared off the scores from day one.

MORAINE — The boys Division II championships at NCR Country Club made it to about the midpoint Tuesday but heavy overnight rains and consistent precipitation led to the course being deemed unplayable and the second round canceled. 

Reverting to Monday’s standings, Archbishop Alter claims its fourth straight title with a score of 314 and Buckeye Valley takes second at 316.

Westfall’s Colton Krafft

Westfall finishes as the eighth-place team in the state with a score of 339.

Westfall junior Brendan Biegler finishes in a tie for 10th and Second Team All-Ohio with a round of 79.

Westfall junior Colton Brungarth was tied for 32nd (82), freshman Colton Krafft was tied for 49th (88), senior Dalton Bush was tied for 55th (90) and freshman Brody Biegler tied for 61st (93).

Circleville sophomore Jaxon Hughey also tied for 61st with a round of 93 on Monday. 

Buckeye Valley’s Sam Reynolds was the individual state champion with a 72 and Archbishop Alter’s Andrew Gochenour was the runner-up with a 75.

KETTERING — The second day of the Division II girls championships at Heatherwoode Golf Club had about an hour delay then a few holes of golf were played before the round was ultimately called off leaving the final state standings to be based off Monday’s play. 

Logan Elm’s Naomi Stahr completes her freshman season in 32nd place in the state after shooting a round of 89 Monday.

Columbus Academy’s Ava Lim repeated as the state individual champion with a Monday round of 70 and Columbus Academy also won the team title for the fourth year straight. Academy had a score of 317. 

Zane Trace sophomore Rosella Lattavo earned First Team All-Ohio honors as she finished in seventh place with a rounds of 74. 

Zane Trace (379) finished seventh as a team and Piketon was 12th (414)
