MORAINE — The 100th annual boys Division II State Golf championships got underway Monday morning at NCR Country Club.
Archbishop Alter, located nearby in Kettering, has a two-shot lead over Buckeye Valley after the first day of play — 314-316. Westfall sits in eighth with a team score of 339.
Brendan Biegler shot a (37-42) 79 to lead the Mustangs.
Biegler is one of nine golfers tied for 10th place.

Colton Brungarth had an opening round of (40-42) 82, Colton Krafft shot a (44-44) 88, Dalton Bush posted a (46-44) 90 and Brody Biegler had a round of (46-47) 93.

Circleville sophomore Jaxon Hughey had a rough start as he started on the back nine with a 52 before finishing up with a 41 on the front for an opening round of 93.

Brungarth is in a three-way tie for 32nd. Krafft is in a four-way tie for 49th. Bush is in a five-way tie for 55th.
Brody Biegler and Hughey are in a four-way tie for 61st.
Play resumes at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Stahr tied for 32nd after opening day
KETTERING — The 33rd girls state golf championships teed off Monday morning at Heatherwoode Golf club with Division II schools in action.
Logan Elm’s Naomi Stahr finds herself in a tie for 32nd after shooting an opening round of 89 in the girls Division II state tournament.
The freshman opened with a 44 on the front at Heatherwoode Golf Club and finished with a 45 on the back.

Columbus Academy junior Eva Lim holds the lead after the first day shooting a 1-under par 70. Her team also has the lead after the first day with a score of 317, 10 shots better than Madeira.
Zane Trace sophomore Rosella Lattavo sits in seventh place after shooting a 3-over round of 74. As a team, the Pioneers also hold the seventh spot with an opening day score of 379.
Piketon is in 12th place with a score of 414. Laila Kelley is leading the Red Streaks with an opening day 86.
Play resumes at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
