Lady Braves win on senior night, Shermans hold on to top spot in SVC with win at Westfall, Lady Tigers clinch share of league

Logan Elm grabbed a 58-42 senior night win over visiting Fairfield Union.

In a close first half, LE held an 11-9 lead after the first quarter and 25-23 lead at the half.

“We focused during the week on preparing for Fairfield Union’s pressure that coach Montgomery has established as a staple to their team’s identity,” LE coach Mike Schultz said. “Once we recognized what we were looking for then we were able to attack and get some high-quality shots. We were also able to switch up our defenses throughout the contest.”

A 15-7 third quarter pushed the Braves’ lead to 40-30.

The Falcons (6-14, 4-10) closed to 44-40 in the fourth before LE (10-11, 5-8) retook control and finished off the win.

“Tonight’s victory allowed us to claim at least a share of fifth place in a very competitive league as well as get to double-digit wins on the year. Both were goals set at the beginning of the season,” Schultz said. “We went through a lot of adversity, but finally found our identity.

“Emma Largent played an outstanding game both defensively and offensively. She tallied a season high eight points, which may not seem like a huge milestone, but Emma has come such a long way in just a short time.

“Kiannah Ingram was solid offensively tonight as well and continues to pour in the points as she had 27 points this evening,” Schultz added. “Kimmy Petty was once again a spark plug for our team and brought a ton of energy while contributing nine points.”

LE rounded out its scoring with six from Enaja Fischer, four from Maggie Wilson, and four from Cadence Haupt.

“We were also able to send our five seniors off on their last career home game with a victory. Katie Wilson, Clara Wilson, Enaja Fischer, Cadence Haupt and Tia Fowler have done so much for the program this year,” Schultz said. “Their dedication and desire to start something special as a Lady Brave has been their focus throughout the season. We truly have 13 ladies who love each other like family.

“Many coaches dream of having what is present at Logan Elm, but rarely does it happen. These five will truly add such a true blessing to the world.”

The Braves’ regular season continues Saturday night at Teays Valley.
