It was a successful weekend for the area’s wrestlers as 53 have gotten a step closer to the state tournament.
Teays Valley leads the way advancing grapplers in 11 of the 14 weight classes in Division I. Logan Elm is moving on 10 and Circleville nine in Division II. Westfall had 10 wrestlers qualify to the district in Division III and Amanda-Clearcreek qualified five.
In girls wrestling, Teays Valley moved on seven and Circleville one. The girls compete in a single state tournament.

Westfall wins sectional title
AMANDA — Westfall came away as the team champions at the Division III Central District sectional hosted by Amanda-Clearcreek.
The Mustangs had 10 wrestlers finish in the top four for their weight class to advance to the district tournament as they amassed 211 points with Mechanicsburg taking second with 158.5. Amanda-Clearcreek was sixth with 115 points as five Aces are moving on.
Westfall’s Bryson Campfield won an 8-4 decision over Amanda-Clearcreek’s Jacob Durr to win the title at 120 pounds.
Gage Bolt won a 7-0 decision to win the 175-pound title and Bryce Wickline was a 6-5 winner in sudden victory to take the 175-pound title.
Placing second for the Mustangs were Brady Speakman (106 pounds), Bo Williams (126), Joey Wright (150), Wes Moats (215) and John Siders (285).
Noah Furniss was fourth at 113 and Isaac Bebb was fourth at 157.
Amanda-Clearcreek’s Bodie Martin won a 16-5 major decision in taking the title at 144 pounds and Peyton Beavers won his championship match at 157 pounds by default.

Along with Durr taking second at 120, the Aces also advanced Rees Lown, who was third at 120, and Kyle Kougher, who was fourth at 138.
The Aces and Mustangs will be competing at the Division III district tournament hosted by Heath High School on Friday and Saturday. Wrestling begins at 4 p.m. Friday.

Teays Valley second at Marysville sectional
MARYSVILLE — Teays Valley took second at the Marysville sectional Saturday.
The Vikings got 11 wrestlers out to next weekend’s sectional in scoring 218.5 points.
Marysville won the sectional with 286 points with Dublin Jerome third at 198.5 points.
Leading the way with sectional titles for the Vikings were John Todhunter (106 pounds), Carson Hix (113) and Josh Zimmer (120).
Todhunter won his title with a tech fall and a major decision.
Hix won with a pin and a 6-3 decision.
Zimmer won with a first-round pin and a 9-7 sudden victory in the finals.
Aiden Kennedy (157 pounds), Ethan Schwalbauch (175) and heavyweight Tristian Graham were each second in their weight classes.
Also advancing for the Vikings were Calvin Videkavich (fourth at 126), Hayden Shambaugh (third at 144), Rhett Turner (fourth at 150), Peter Graham (third at 165) and Tyler Tietz (third at 215).

Logan Elm, Circleville second and third at Gallia Academy sectional
GALLIPOLIS — Logan Elm took second and Circleville was third at the Southeast District sectional at Gallia Academy Saturday.
Miami Trace won the sectional with 187.5 points while Logan Elm was second with 181 and Circleville had 155 for third. The Braves have 10 wrestlers moving on to the district and the Tigers advanced nine.
Dawson Hudson had a first-round pin in the finals to win the title at 113 pounds and Conner Green won a 9-8 decision to take the title at heavyweight for the Braves.
Blaine Holzschuh (120 pounds), Gavin Hoover (126) and Bryce Perkins (165) each took second for the Braves.
Ayden Hudson (106), Nehamiah Hess (132), David Little (138) and Scot Gaskin (144) each finished third and Hunter Schoenborn took fourth at 150 pounds.
Jacob Johnson led Circleville by winning the title at 132 pounds with a tech fall in the finals. Andrew Siembida was second at 103 and Braylon Morgan was second at 215.
Drew Johnson finished third at 106, Maddox Keith was third at 113, Ayden Blue took third at 175 and Caihden Morgan was third at heavyweight. Ayden Reedy (138) and David Northam (190) placed fourth.
Circleville and Logan Elm will return to Gallia Academy High School Friday and Saturday for the district tournament. Competition begins at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Seven Vikings advance, one Tiger moving on
ASHVILLE — Teays Valley advanced seven of its eight wrestlers to win the pre-regional tournament hosted by the Vikings in the girls’ state tournament.
TV picked up 147 points with Hamilton Township taking second with 136.
The Vikings had three champions with Ava Miller recording a second-round pin to take the title at 110 pounds, Mackenzie Stevenson had a second-round pin to win at 115 pounds and Madi Hamilton pinned her opponent in 15 seconds to take the 145-pound title.
Lidia Huntley was second at 125 pounds, Sky Zoellick was second at 140 pounds and Hallie Dunaway placed second at 155 pounds.
Brianna Grambo took third at 135 pounds to round out the group of TV wrestlers advancing.
• Competing at the Gallia Academy pre-regional, Circleville had 30 team points to place 11th and Amanda-Clearcreek was 19th with seven points. Delaware Hayes outpaced the competition with 211 points while New Lexington was second with 84.
Makaylee Holbrok was the lone Tiger to advance as she pinned her opponent in the consolation finals to take third at 100 pounds.
The Teays Valley and Circleville wrestlers will compete at the Olentangy Orange regional Sunday with competition beginning at 10 a.m.
