Long balls propel CHS softball to win at BC, CHS/BC baseball suspended by darkness

SB — Circleville 8, Bloom-Carroll 5

CARROLL — Circleville had a big finish in taking down Bloom-Carroll 8-5 Wednesday.

Trailing 3-2 and with two outs in the top of the sixth, Circleville’s Gabby McConnell and Kayla Fleck each drew walks. Then Kaylee West smacked one over the centerfield fence to make it a 5-3 CHS lead.

The Bulldogs responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Circleville started the seventh with a walk by Tori Bennett and then Claire Davis homered to left field for a 7-5 CHS lead.

A pair of singles from Makaylee West and McConnell – with a popout in between – had runners on the corner. Fleck hit a grounder to the second baseman, which allowed West to score.

Circleville shut down the Bulldogs in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

McConnell went the distance on the mound. She allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Tigers (2-2) head to Wheelersburg this afternoon.

BB — Bloom-Carroll 9, Circleville 4

CIRCLEVILLE — Circleville was attempting to dig itself out of a 9-0 hole when darkness put an end to Wednesday’s game with Bloom-Carroll.

Circleville had a couple of costly errors Wednesday as only one of the nine BC runs was an earned run.

Circleville was able to crack the scoreboard in the fifth, despite starting the inning with two outs. Kaiden Bigley singled and Kole Nungester walked. Drew Thornsley hit a double to center to score Bigley.

Nungester scored thanks to a botched pickoff attempt at second base and then Trent Smith singled to drive in Thornsley to put the score at 9-3.

Circleville added a fourth run in the sixth when Glavine Bigam was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Hudson Phalin followed with a single.

After a strikeout, Bigley walked to load the bases. Nungester then drew his second walk of the night to force in Bigam.

Circleville started the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff double from Lane Adams, but then the game was suspended due to darkness.

JD Reuter started for the Tigers, pitching three-and-a-third innings. He gave up seven runs (one earned) on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Zach Bell came on in relief allowing two unearned runs in 3.2 innings of work on for hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

The game will resume when Circleville heads to BC on April 19.

The Tigers (1-2) host Logan Elm this afternoon.
