Lawrentz no-hits opponent as TV SB grabs pair of Florida wins; Viking baseball falls in Tennessee

KISSIMMEE, Fla — Teays Valley’s grabbed a pair of wins in Florida Thursday. 

The Vikings beat Chicago’s St. Ignatius Prep 16-2 and had a big pitching performance against St. Joseph Hill Academy, from Staten Island, NY, to win 11-0.

The Vikings used some strong hitting and a couple Ignatius miscues to put eight runs across in the third inning and added six more in the third and two in the bottom of the fourth. 

TV had a dozen hits in the contest led by Morgan Cantrell going 3-3 with a triple and a double and four RBI. 

Avery Stratton pitched the first 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on one hit with one walk and a strikeout. Isabel Sayre pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up one hit. 

In the win over St. Joseph Hill Academy, Alyvia Lawrentz went up against only one more batter than the minimum. 

A second-inning walk was the only blemish on her record as she struck out 12 in throwing the no-hitter.

The TV offense did its damage with four runs in the first and seven in the third. 

Aimee DeWeese swung a big bat for the Vikings with an RBI double in the first and then smacking a three-run home run in the third. 

Micah Mann and Morgan Cantrell each had an RBI triple in the game. 

The Vikings (6-0) had 13 hits in the contest. 

BB — Clarksville 4, Teays Valley 0

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn — Teays Valley’s time in Tennessee got off to a rough start Thursday with a 4-0 loss to Clarksville High School. 

After a 1-2-3 first inning for the Vikings, the host Wildcats got their half of the inning started by reaching on an error, the second batter was hit by a pitch and then a single to left made it a 1-0 game.

After a strikeout, Clarksville’s Collin Windham singled to right to drive in two runs and make it 3-0. 

The Wildcats added a run in the third and kept the Vikings in check the rest of the way. 

TV was limited to two hits — singles from Chase Liddell and Brody Weiler — and never sent more than four batters to the plate in an inning.

Weiler went six innings on the mound, giving up four runs (two earned) on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts. 

TV’s trip to Tennessee continues with a pair of games this afternoon.
