LANCASTER — Fairfield Union was dominant in winning its third straight Mid-State League Buckeye Division track and field title Friday.
The Falcons’ girls left little doubt as they won eight of the 11 running events Friday – including all three relays. In the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and 3,200-meter run, FU took first and second. The Falcons also won the 3,200-meter relay on Tuesday.
Fairfield Union amassed 188 points with Circleville second at 127 and Teays Valley third at 110.5. Amanda-Clearcreek was fifth with 47 points and Logan Elm was seventh with 43.
The Falcons’ 61-point win was the largest the MSL girls’ championships has seen since Canal Winchester bested Circleville 181-92.5 in 2012.

The three event titles not won by the Falcons were claimed by Pickaway County athletes.
Circleville’s Faith Yancey picked up her seventh and eight MSL crowns. The senior won the 100 meters and 200 meters for the third straight year. She also won titles as part of the winning 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams in 2022.
Yancey ran the 100 in 12.57 seconds with Fairfield Union’s Sarah Lepi second at 13.04. She ran the 200 in 25.84 seconds with Bloom-Carroll’s Ti’Jaiya Owens second at 27.33.
Yancey also was part of the 400-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams that took second.
Teays Valley’s Abby Henderson will be the last MSL champion for the Teays Valley girls as she won the 400 meters in 1:01.22. Circleville’s Bella Morningstar was second in 1:01.95.
FU’s Anna Conrad had a big night in setting three MSL records.
Conrad set the record in the 1,600 meters as she won the race in 5:08.66 while Circleville’s Maddux Bigam was second in 5:22.39 and Amanda-Clearcreek’s Gavynn Sowers was third in 5:31.74.
In the 800 meters, Conrad won in a record time of 2:20.30 with Circleville’s Ellie Patrick second in 1:26.70, Circleville’s Bigam third in 2:28.17 and Amanda-Clearcreek’s Emma Kern fourth in 2:30.83.
Conrad also was part of the MSL record-setting 1,600-meter relay team and part of the winning 3,200-meter relay team.
FU’s Averey Cottrill was another four-event winner for the Falcons as she won the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles and was part of the winning 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams.
Conrad and Cottrill will share the Outstanding Performance Award as they accumulated 40 points with their wins. Yancey accumulated 36 for the Tigers.
The win is Fairfield Union’s eighth in the last decade. Only Teays Valley in 2021 and the 2020 season being canceled because of COVID have kept the Falcons from hoisting the team trophy.
