SB — No. 7 Teays Valley 10, No. 35 Logan 2
ASHVILLE — It took two days, but Teays Valley advanced in the Central District softball tournament with a 10-2 won over Logan.
Weather suspended the Vikings’ Division I tournament game with Logan in the bottom of the fourth inning Thursday with TV up 6-2.
The Vikings came back on Friday, holding the Chieftains in check.
They put the game away in the sixth with four more runs.
Avery Stratton led off with a single and Alyvia Lawrentz had a one-out double. Morgan Cantrell reached on a fielder’s choice that brought in the first run of the inning. Aimee DeWeese had a ground out that scored Lawrentz.
Michelle Brumfield then wrapped it up with a two-run home run to center.
Lawrentz pitched all seven innings for the Vikings. She gave up two runs (one earned) while allowing only three hits with one walk and she struck out seven.
The No. 7-seeded Vikings will go on the road Tuesday to No. 4 Delaware Hayes. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
Regular Season
BB — Circleville 6, Westfall 1
WILLIAMSPORT — Circleville complimented four hits by drawing seven walks and took advantage of a couple of hit batters to leave Westfall with a 6-1 win Friday.
The Tigers’ pitching had better control.
Trent Smith went six innings for the win. He gave up one earned run on four hits without issuing a walk and he struck out six.
JD Reuter pitched the final inning giving up two hits without issuing a walk and struck out one.
Both teams scored in the second inning.
Two hit batters set up a two-out RBI single for Reuter.
Westfall got its run when Bryce Wickline singled, stole second and went to third on a passed ball. A groundout from Brendan Biegler brought Wickline home to score.
In the third, Smith had a one-out double for the Tigers, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.
Drew Thornsley had drawn a walk, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a wild pitch for a 3-1 Circleville edge.
Lane Adams, who had walked earlier in the inning, was able to score on an error for a 4-1 Circleville lead.
In the sixth inning, Adams drew a one-out walk and stole second. With two outs, Kole Nungester was hit by a pitch. Glavine Bigam singled to center to bring home Adams.
Reuter was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and Hunter Phalin walked to force in Circleville’s final run.
The Mustangs made a last stand in the seventh when Trent Gardner and Mason Wright opened the inning with back-to-back singles. But an infield fly, a strikeout and a fly ball to right field brought an end to the game.
Brenden Tuttle started for the Mustangs and went 2.2 innings and gave up four runs to take the loss. He walked three and struck out three. Cory Green pitched 3.1 innings in relief, giving up two runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Caleb Lowe pitched the final inning. He walked two and struck out one.
BB — Fairfield Union 4, Amanda-Clearcreek 1
AMANDA — Three first-inning errors opened the door for Fairfield Union to take a 4-1 win from Amanda-Clearcreek.
The first two Falcons reached base on errors, FU followed with an RBI single and a third error brought in two more runs.
The Aces (8-15) came back with a single in the bottom of the inning from Brady Holbrook and then a one-out double from Blayne Barker brought Holbrook in for a 3-1 game.
FU added its final run in the top of the third with a one-out walk and a two-out double.
AC had six hits in the game with Barker and Bodie Martin each getting two.
Brody Elder started for the Aces and pitched 1.1 innings giving up three unearned runs on one hit with two walks and one strikeout.
Gary Kemmerling pitched 3.2 innings giving up one run on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Dalton Dresbach pitched the final two innings giving up one hit with two walks and a strikeout.
This was the third meeting between the two schools with the Falcons (11-12) winning all three.
