DAYTON — Alden Williams led the Pickaway County contingent at Friday’s Division II state track meet.
The Logan Elm senior took seventh place in the long jump to earn All-Ohio honors and a spot on the awards podium.
Williams had a top leap of 20’ 10.25”. Victor Singleton of Toledo Central Catholic was the state champion with a jump of 22’ 0.5”.
On the girls’ side of the long jump, Circleville’s Sydney Lattimer was 18th in the state. The junior had a best jump of 15’ 11.25”. Ashtan Winfrey of Columbus Africentric won the event with a jump of 19’ 6”.
Circleville also had competitors running in Friday’s prelims.
Competing in her third state track meeting, Circleville senior Faith Yancey finished 12th among those vying for the eight qualifying spots in the 200-meter dash.
Yancey ran a time of 25.60 seconds Friday – she would have needed to be faster than 25.19 to make it to Saturday’s finals.
Yancey joined with Lattimer, Isabelle Perini and Makya Cockerham in the 400-meter relay prelims. The team finished 14thwith a time of 50.17 seconds. Bellefontaine got the final qualifying spot with a time of 49.26 seconds.
In the 1,600-meter relay, Yancey, Bella Morningstar, Ellie Patrick and Maddux Bigam had the 12th-fastest time. They ran the four laps in 4:03.86.
Ottawa-Glandorf claimed the final spot for Saturday’s finals with a time of 4:00.29.
Three more local athletes will be in action Saturday at the state meet.
Teays Valley’s Brooklyn Herbert will compete in the Division I high jump championships at 10 a.m., Westfall’s Josh Trapp runs in the Division II 800 meters finals at 11:20 a.m. and Teays Valley’s Katy Zeng will run in the Division I 3,200 meters final at 5 p.m.
