Tigers improves to 2-0; defense keys TV win; Aces repel Shermans

Circleville 35, Vinton County 8

McARTHUR — Circleville improved to 2-0 after another long bus trip as the Tigers beat Vinton County 35-8 Friday.

Drew Thornsley carried 13 times for 53 yards on the night. He would have had more but the yards stop accumulating when you hit the endzone and Thornsley did that three times for the Tigers Friday.

Thornsley’s first gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead and then he scored twice in the second half.

Ray Ezell carried 10 times for 77 yards and scored Circleville’s final touchdown midway through the fourth.

After VC had taken an 8-7 lead in the second, Kole Nugester caught a TD pass from Hudson Phalin to put Circleville up 14-7. Nungester had four catches for 46 yards.

Jack Kline caught three balls for 71 yards.

Phalin was 10-15 passing for 129 yards.

The Tigers (2-0) will make their home debut Friday when they host Westfall (1-1).

Teays Valley 28, Bloom-Carroll 10

CARROLL — Teays Valley’s defense had two big defensive scores as the Vikings defeated Bloom-Carroll 28-10 Friday.

With an early 7-3 lead, Tyler Matthews intercepted an Ethan Thanthanavong pass and returned it 45 yards to put TV up 14-3 with four minutes left in the first. And that’s where the score stood at halftime.

The Bulldogs tightened the game to 14-10 with a 39-yard TD pass from Thanthanavong to Michael Stevenson in the third period.

The Vikings answered in the fourth with a seven-yard TD from Brady Farmer to Cavin McDowell.

TV put an exclamation on the night with just under 10 minutes left when a BC high snap put the ball on the turf and Spike Woods scooped it up and raced 69 yards for a touchdown.

It was the second of the night for Woods who had a one-yard score in the first quarter.

Farmer was 9-12 passing for 98 yards. Woods had 24 rushes for 79 yards.

The Vikings (1-1) will be home for the first time this season when Watkins Memorial visits Friday.

Amanda-Clearcreek 27, Unioto 21

AMANDA — Amanda-Clearcreek had to wait through an hour-long weather delay before finishing off a 27-21 win over Unioto Friday night.

With the game winding down under four minutes and the Shermans up 21-19, Bodie Martin broke a long touchdown run and Tommy Stai scored on a two-point conversion to put the Aces on top.

It looked like AC had the game wrapped up after Tanner Affolter grabbed his second interception of the night, but the Aces gave the ball back to the Shermans when they lost a fumble with three minutes left.

That’s when lightning from a passing storm sent the game into a weather delay.

When the game resumed, the Aces were able to hold the Shermans and get a turnover on downs to regain possession of the ball.

The Aces (1-1) host Adena Friday.
