Eve with the start of the game delayed 90 minutes because of the weather, Circleville had strong showings on both sides of the ball as the Tigers improved to 3-0 with a 33-6 win over Westfall.
Hudson Phalin had a big night as the junior quarterback was in on all five Tiger touchdowns.
Phalin started the game’s scoring with a seven-yard TD pass to Kole Nungester in the first quarter.
He ran one in from a yard out with 7:36 left in the second and then connected with Jack Kline on an 11-yard score right before halftime.
Phalin made Westfall pay for a short punt two minutes into the third when he hit Kline for a 54-yard score.
Nungester snagged one more score from Phalin — this one from six yards out — in the fourth to wrap up the game’s scoring.
Phalin finished the night connecting on 14 of his 18 passing attempts for 179 yards and he ran for another 53 on 10 attempts.
Eli Wright had Westfall’s lone score of the night when he capped an 80-yard Westfall drive with a four-yard scoring run in the first quarter. A missed PAT kick left the Mustangs trailing 7-6.
Kline was the game’s top receiver with five catches for 118 yards with Nungester grabbing four balls for 23.
Drew Thornsley played a big part in Circleville’s success as well with the senior running for 114 yards on 21 carries.
Joey Wright led the Mustangs on the ground as he finished the night with 106 yards (92 in the first half) on 28 carries.
AJ Paudicz threw for 104 yards for the Mustangs as he hit 10 of his 16 attempts. Jaden Towler had two catches for 57 yards and Landon Sparks had three catches for 28.
Circleville wrapped up the night with 410 yards of offense while holding the Mustangs to 219.
Thornsley and Kiser Cassidy each snagged interceptions for the Tigers.
Circleville’s defense stood tall late in the game as the Tigers stopped Westfall on a fourth-and-goal from the one-yard-line on the Mustangs’ last possession.
Both teams open up league play next week.
The Mustangs (1-2) host Unioto (1-1) while Circleville will welcome Logan Elm (2-0) for the annual Backyard Brawl.
