Bulldogs take control of MSL with 41-14 win over LE

CARROLL — Bloom-Carroll made Logan Elm pay for a couple of turnovers on the way to a 41-14 win to take control of the Mid-State League’s Buckeye Division.

Logan Elm punted after its first two possessions and Bloom-Carroll did the same.

The difference came when the Braves fumbled BC’s second punt, and the Bulldogs recovered at the LE 16.

The Bulldogs survived three penalties after the recovery before getting a 13-yard scoring pass from Ethan Thanthanavong to Jude Blair for a 7-0 lead late in the first.

LE grabbed a couple of first downs on its next possession before another costly mistake. BC brought the pressure as Aaron Walters dropped back to pass and his throw was intercepted by Bastian Ovalle who returned it 45 yards to LE’s 15.

On third-and-10, Thanthanavong kept it and ran it in for a 14-0 lead.

LE responded with a 13-play drive that moved down to the BC six-yard line, only to come to an end with an incompletion on fourth down.

The second half got off to a better start for the Braves when they recovered an onside kick to start the third period.
BC gave them five yards on a penalty and Michal Bock grabbed 37 yards on three carries – the last one covering 16 yards – to get the Braves on the board.

BC answered by chewing up seven minutes in covering 59 yards on 12 pays with Blair scoring from two yards out.

BC scored again a minute later on a 44-yard pass from Thanthanavong to Evan Cardenas.

LE covered 80 yards on its next possession by taking advantage of a couple BC penalties and hit a 31-yard pass to Ne-Miah Waugh to set up a one-yard run from Walters with a minute left in the third.

BC added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter – a two-yard run from Thanthanavong – to stay unbeaten in league play.
