AKRON — Despite having to play most of second day with rain coming down to various degrees, Westfall was able to pick up a couple of spots to finish 10th at the OHSAA Division II State Golf Tournament Monday.
The Mustangs were 12th after the first day but played well enough to pass St. Marys Memorial and Bay to finish 10th by shaving 23 shots off their Monday rounds at Firestone Country Club’s North Course.
The Mustangs posted a 356 in Sunday’s opening round and came back with a 333 Monday.
Sophomore Brendan Biegler led the Mustangs with a two-day total of 162. After posting an 86 Sunday, he came back to fire a 4-over (40-36) 76 on Monday.
Senior Jacob Hicks shots rounds of 83 each day to finish 22-over for the tournament.
Sophomore Colton Brungarth knocked five shots off his Sunday round to shoot (40-46) 86 Monday for a two-day total of 177.
Junior Dalton Bush shot a round of (44-44) 88 Monday — eight shots better than his Sunday effort.
Sophomore Ian Camden posted a round of (57-53) 110 Monday.
Archbishop Alter won the state title with a team 598 while Ottawa Hills was second with 624.
Alter’s Matthew Kreusch and Wyoming’s Finley Bartlett shared individual honors as they both posted two-day scores of 4-under, 140.
