TV wins at Logan, Aces stop Lions, Bulldogs bite Tigers, Piketon streaks past Westfall

Teays Valley 24, Logan 3

LOGAN — Logan had a brief lead, but Teays Valley had a quick answer on the way to a 24-3 win Friday night. 

In the second quarter, Logan’s Eli Markin connected on a 19-yard field goal to put the Chieftains up 3-0. 

A 54-yard kickoff return by Peter Graham after the field goal set up the Vikings at the Logan 14 and two plays later Carson Payne took it in from five yards out. 

The Vikings pitched a shutout the rest of the way while adding a six-yard run from Brady Farmer in the third quarter, a 28-yard run from Farmer in the fourth and a 21-yard field goal from Maxwell Spencer with five minutes left. 

Evan Maynard led the Vikings with 78 yards on 20 carries. Farmer added 45 yards on five carries, Carson Payne had 25 yards on eight runs and Graham was 1-1 rushing. 

Farmer was 8-18 passing for 100 yards with Cavin McDowell catching three passes for 32 yards and Griffin Gray two for 27. Markus Mealy, Luke Burgett and Graham each had one catch for 15, 13 and 13 yards, respectively.

The Vikings had 249 yards of offense while the Chieftains had 159.

The win gives the Vikings a 6-4 regular season record and earned Teays Valley a home game against Briggs (6-4) next Friday to start the Division II playoffs.

Amanda-Clearcreek 50, Liberty Union 14

AMANDA — Nick Holland returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown setting the tone for Amanda-Clearcreek’s 50-14 win over visiting Liberty Union. 

The Aces got out to a 27-0 lead and led 27-6 at halftime. 

AC finished 6-4 for the regular season with a 3-3 league record, good for a tie for fourth.

The Aces continue next week in the first round of the OHSAA playoffs as the No. 9 seed in their region in Division V and will travel to No. 8 Portsmouth (7-3) Friday.  

Playoff tickets go on sale Monday at noon.

Bloom-Carroll 41, Circleville 7

CIRCLEVILLE — Bloom-Carroll completed an unbeaten run through the Mid-State League’s Buckeye Division Friday night with a 41-7 win at Circleville. 

BC quarterback Ethan Thanthanavong threw two touchdowns and ran one in to lead the Bulldogs. He was trying for a fourth touchdown in the third quarter but was intercepted in the endzone. The defender tried to return the interception only to have the ball knocked loose and BC’s Lunden Dodds picked up the loose ball and ran it back in for the game’s final score. 

BC had gotten out to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter when the Tigers recovered a fumble and struck on a 63-yard halfback pass from Kole Nungester to Jack Kline. 

It was 27-7 at halftime.

Drew Thornsley had 145 yards rushing for Circleville on 23 carries and Hudson Phalin had 14 yards on five totes. 

Phalin was 13-19 passing for 75 yards with an interception. 

Kline led the Tigers with five catches for 94 yards, Nungester had three for 23, Ben Rolfe had two catches for 13 yards, Thornsley had two for six yards and Brody Brisker had two yards on one catch. 

Circleville completes the season with a 4-6 overall record and was sixth in the MSL standings at 1-5.

Piketon 42 , Westfall 6

PIKETON — Piketon hit quick and got out to a big early lead in ending Westfall’s season with a 42-6 decision. 

Buddy Wilson had the first of his three touchdowns when he ran it in from 28 yards out 74 seconds into Friday’s contest. He had a 61-yard score later in the first quarter and a 13-yard score in the second. 

Quarterback Luke Gullion ran one in from 20 yards out, threw a one-yard pass to Wayde Fout and ran in a two-point convsersion. 

Mason Thacker had the Red Streaks’ other touchdown when he picked up a Westfall fumble on a kickoff and ran it in from 20 yards out. 

The Mustangs erased the shutout in the fourth quarter when AJ Paudicz connected with Connor Geer on a 27-yard score. 

The Mustangs wrap up the season with a 4-6 record and were fifth in the SVC at 3-4.
