CIRCLEVILLE — Logan Elm bounced back from a slow start to defeat visiting Jackson 53-29 Monday night.
“It’s all about making the adjustments. We were very purposeful in the first quarter of just playing solid in the halfcourt defense,” LE coach Mike Schultz said. “The last four games I’ve given them the stat that the other teams have shot 196 shots inside the paint, so we knew we had to focus on that.”
Jackson scored the first five points of the game as the Braves went scoreless for four minutes.
Kiki Ingram broke LE’s drought with a pair of free throws and the Braves were up 9-5 before Jackson scored again.
The Braves led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and had a 22-13 lead at halftime.
“Once we put in our sets and the kids started understanding what those were, it freed up our shooters a little bit. Plus, we also had other kids who stepped up,” Schultz said. “Maddie Adkins really stepped up today and hit some key shots in that second half.
“We did some good things. It took us a little bit of time to get the motor running offensively, but we were pleased with how the girls played in the second half.”
LE extended its lead to 36-17 late in the third before entering the final period up 36-21.
Ingram led the Braves with 17 points while Kimberly Petty had 10 and Maddie Adkins added nine.
The Braves ended the night with a 43-30 rebounding advantage. Adkins had seven while Ingram, Maleah Gardner and Maggie Wilson each had six.
Jaylynn Montgomery led Jackson with 12 rebounds.
“We are five-foot eight and under, so we know that we just have to outwork you for some of those,” Schultz said. “We did a nice job today. Maleah was able to get some rebounds and Maggie as well. And Gillian (Savage, five rebounds) is just able to outjump so many people.”
The Braves (2-3) are home with Amanda-Clearcreek Friday.

LOGAN — Amanda-Clearcreek had a strong start and kept host Logan from getting control in a 55-45 road win Monday.
Five Aces scored in the first period as they took an 18-9 lead.
Despite a strong second quarter from the Chieftains, AC held a 31-27 lead at halftime.
Taylor Evans had a game-high 18 points to lead the Aces, Kaylie Wilson added 15 and Hayden Plank put in 13.
Makenzie Daubenmire led Logan with 14 points.
The Aces (4-2) travel to Logan Elm Friday.
