Circleville 58, Amanda-Clearceek 36
CIRCLEVILLE — Circleville broke open its game against visiting Amanda-Clearcreek in the second quarter on the way to a 58-36 win Tuesday.
The Tigers were up 13-12 after the first period then held the Aces to only two free throws in the second period and scored 16 points of their own to go up 29-14 at halftime.
“I thought Amanda Clearcreek played really hard. We knew those kids over there were going to come in here fired up and ready to go,” Circleville coach Evan Callihan said. “I thought our guys did what we needed to do but we still have a lot of room for growth.
“The second quarter was big for us tonight. Kiser Cassidy and Blain Fowler both came in and provided the spark we needed in that quarter. As two sophomores, the both of them play so hard all of the time which is something that we are working to find consistently as a team.”
Propelled by an eight-point, one-minute spurt, Circleville extended its lead to 45-20 with 4:15 left in the third.
The Tigers cooled off a bit and didn’t score for the next six-and-a-half minutes, but the Aces were only able to close to 45-30.
Riley Jenkins added seven and Ed Kirk six in the closing minutes to finish out Circleville’s win.
“Junior Riley Jenkins was big for us tonight. He made some big shots at moments early in the game when we were struggling to score,” Callihan said. “I’ve said it before but that kid puts a ton of extra time in. He’s one of the hardest workers I have coached.
“Kole Nungester and Ed Kirk both helped paved the way scoring wise for us tonight. Ed finished well in transition and Kole did a good job of initiating our offense and creating scoring opportunities for us.”
Jenkins was the game’s top scorer with 23 points, Kirk had 12 had Kole Nungester put in 11.
Hayden Dunn led the Aces with nine and Nick Holland had eight.

BALTIMORE — Circleville held its host scoreless in the third period on the way to a 56-27 win Tuesday.
The Tigers were up 26-18 at halftime and used their defense to build a 43-18 lead through three periods.
Maddie Blakeman had 19 of her 24 points in the second half to lead the Tigers.
Brooklyn Cramer added 13 and Addison Edgington put in 11.

CHILLICOTHE — Westfall converted nine of 14 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter on the way to grabbing a 62-57 road win at Huntington Tuesday.
Joe Wray accounted for five of those in the final period on the way to a 25-point night for the Mustangs.
Westfall held a 32-27 lead at the half and was up 46-39 entering the final quarter.
Haden Rigsby had 13 points for Westfall.
Brayden Elliott led Huntington with 13 points and Brennan Smith put in 11 for the Huntsmen.

ASHVILLE — Hilliard Darby used a three-headed attack to defeat host Teays Valley 58-48 Tuesday.
Ty Maul had 16 of his game-high 21 in the middle two periods as Darby went from being tied with the Vikings to up 45-35.
Kade Romine added 18 and Alex Perce put in 12 for the Panthers. A three from Cooper Gilkerson was the only other basket for Darby.
After being held scoreless in the first quarter, Brody Fields put in 21 to lead the Vikings. Karter Kozlowski added 10.
