Westfall adds four to athletics hall of fame

In between the varsity girls and boys basketball games with Paint Valley Saturday, Westfall High School inducted four new members into the school’s athletics hall of fame. Inducted were Shane Hegarty (Class of 1995), David Jones (2005), John Koehler (1997) and Jessica (Rodgers) Sullivan (2005).

Shane Hegarty 

Shane Hegarty is a 1995 graduate of Westfall High School. He played football and ran track as a Mustang. 

As a four-year varsity football player under coach Keith Downing, Hegarty was a team captain his senior year. Hegarty was a three-time All-Scioto Valley Conference player, two-time all-county player, two-time all-district player and played in the Central Ohio and South Central Ohio all-star games. 

Hegarty also was a four-year varsity track athlete, under Jerry Mudd. Hegarty was a regional qualifier in the shot put in 1993 and was district champion and regional qualifier in the discus and shot put in 1994 and 1995. Hegarty stills holds both the shot put and discus records at Westfall. 

Hegarty is a concrete sales rep for Anderson Concrete. He and his wife, Christina, have one daughter, Ashley. They currently reside in Orient.

David Jones

David Jones is a 2005 graduate of Westfall High School. Jones played football, wrestled and ran track as a Mustang.

Under coach Scott Bartholomew, Jones earned All-Ohio honors on defense in 2004. As a wrestler under Dennis Hammond, Jones was a three-time state qualifier. He earned a fifth-place finish at the state tournament in 2004 and an eighth-place finish at the state tournament in 2005. 

While in high school, Jones was a member of the National Honor Society, Eagle Scout and won the Columbus Dispatch Warren Sneed Scholar Athlete Award. 

Jones earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Ohio University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, serving as the president of the OU Chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers, and was the Robe Leadership Institute Scholar. 

Jones is an engineer at Honeywell Aerospace, a member of the Northwest Community Church and CCV Stars soccer coach. He and his wife, Misti, live in Peoria, AZ, with their children, Evan and Ellie.

John Koehler 

John Koehler is a 1997 graduate of Westfall High School. Koehler lettered in baseball, basketball and football. 

As a football player, Koehler was a four-year letter winner and team captain his senior year. He earned All-Scioto Valley Conference honors for three years, including being the SVC Lineman of the Year his senior year, all county linebacker, Agonis Club Honorable Mention linebacker, First Team All-Central District, Honorable Mention Region 14 and All-Ohio honors his senior year. 

While playing football at Westfall, Koehler and his teammates won three SVC championships and were the first football team at Westfall to make the OHSAA playoffs. 

Koehler went on to play football at Wittenberg University. 

Koehler is a special education teacher at West Jefferson High School. He and his wife, Brandi, live in Grove City with their two children, Landen and Lainey.

Jessica (Rodgers) Sullivan 

Jessica Sullivan is a 2005 graduate of Westfall High School where she was a National Honor Society member and served as class treasurer. As a player at Westfall, Sullivan lettered for four years in volleyball, basketball and softball. 

Sullivan earned All-Scioto Valley Conference honors in softball, she also earned All-SVC and all-district honors in volleyball (and she and her teammates won the SVC title in volleyball in 2004). As a basketball player, she earned All-SVC, county and district honors (she and her teammates won the SVC title for basketball in 2005). 

Sullivan was the Wendy’s Player of the Year and earned All-Ohio honors in 2005. 

Sullivan also served as a varsity volleyball coach at Westfall with her teams winning SVC titles in 2013 and 2019. She was also named SVC coach of the year in 2019. 

Sullivan played volleyball at Rio Grande, then played volleyball, basketball and softball at OU- Chillicothe. 

Sullivan is a teacher at Westfall Middle School. She and her husband, Jason, live in Ashville with their children, Jaxton, Jayleigh, Brooke and Austin.
