New Hope 94, Lebanon Christian 73
CIRCLEVILLE — New Hope got out to a big start on the way to a 94-73 win over visiting Lebanon Christian Friday night.
That fast start was due in no small part to the beginning of a record night for Nathaniel Ames.
Ames had 16 of New Hope’s 31 first-quarter points and didn’t slow down as he went on to score a school record 53 points.
Playing without senior leaders Hunter Cavanaugh and Xander Rink, the junior upped his total to 34 by halftime as the Statesmen led 62-35.
“Nathaniel was absolutely on fire tonight. He scored from deep, at the rim and even had a solid mid-range game tonight. They just did not have anyone who could guard him,” New Hope coach Shane Roese said. “Plus, I really thought he moved the ball extremely well tonight and had multiple assists. He did a good job of getting teammates the ball in good spots to score.
“It was a very fun game to watch — great spacing, pace, ball movement and shot making.”
Ames added 16 in the third as New Hope finished the period up 85-55.
Tyler Cook put in 20 for the Statesmen and Landen Parker had 10.
New Hope (16-5) finishes its regular season tonight hosting Horizon Science at 7:30 p.m.
