New Hope 75, Horizon Science 64
CIRCLEVILLE — Horizon Science had the early edge on host New Hope, but the Statesmen were able to turn things around in the second half to finish the regular season with a 75-64 win.
The Hawks (12-10) got out in front 20-12 after the first quarter and maintained a 38-32 lead at the half.
“We were just out of rhythm and missed some shots we typically make and found ourselves in a tough spot,” coach Shane Roese said. “We challenged them to lock in and get some stops and stick with our plan offensively.”
New Hope came out after the break and grabbed control behind a 17-point outburst from Tyler Cook. The senior sunk five three-point shots as the Statesmen went up 61-52.
“We knew the way we finished the half it was a matter of time before we got it going,” Roese said. “Tyler Cook just lit it up. They pressured us and we simply attacked and fed Tyler’s hot hand.”
Fellow senior Xander Rink helped seal the win in the fourth quarter by hitting five of six free throws down the stretch.
Cook finished the night with 25 points, Nathaniel Ames had 20, Rink had 19 and Hunter Cavanaugh had 11.
The Statesmen (17-5) open OCSAA tournament play Thursday hosting Immaculate Conception Academy at 7 p.m.

Circleville 61, Logan 37
LOGAN — Circleville had a good start to both halves on the way to getting a 61-37 win at Logan Saturday night.
The Tigers were up 13-6 after the first eight minutes. Logan kept it close in the second to keep Circleville’s lead at 25-16 at halftime.
A 21-8 third gave Circleville a 22-point lead (46-24) and control of the game.
“I was proud of the energy and effort our guys played with tonight,” Circleville coach Evan Callihan said. “It was our third road game of the week and as coaches we challenged our guys going into the game to finish the week strong.”
Kole Nungester led the Tigers with 18 points, Ed Kirk had 10 and Jack Kline and Riley Jenkins each added nine.
“I thought Kole did a great job of setting the tone early and getting us in a rhythm offensively,” Callihan said. “Logan did a great job of switching up defenses and Kole got us into the offense that we needed to be in. He is our floor general, and I thought that was key for success tonight.
“It was a total team win. Ultimately, I thought our defense set the tone. We executed what our plan was and I thought our guys played with a lot of fight on the defensive end of the floor.”
The Tigers also got scoring from Glavine Bigam with six, Blain Fowler and Auri Travis with three each, Brody Brisker with two and Jacob Reichelderfer with one.
“We were able to get everyone into the game tonight and we had nine different guys score for us which was cool to see,” Callihan said.
Circleville (13-8) wraps up the regular season with a trip to London Monday.
