CIRCLEVILLE — It was a rough opening night Friday for Logan Elm as visiting Zane Trace scored four times in the first quarter on the way to a 48-0 final.
The Pioneers took advantage of several miscues by an inexperienced LE team looking to fill the holes left by a large senior class that graduated last year.
The Braves put the ball on the ground seven times – losing four – and gave up a pair of interceptions.
In the first quarter, the Pioneers scored on a 51-yard run, a 15-yard run, blocked a punt and hit a 24-yard pass.
An 18-yard run from Brice Johnson and a 27-yard run from Jaden Higgins in the second quarter gave ZT a 42-0 lead at halftime.
Johnson added a 30-yard rushing TD in the third.
ZT kept the Braves’ offense in check as LE managed only 30 yards on the ground while throwing for 100.
Tyler Bowlby was the top gainer for the Braves with 56 yards on three catches.
The Braves travel to Westfall (1-0) on Friday.
