No. 3 Mount Vernon 18, No. 2 Teays Valley 1 (6 innings)
LEWIS CENTER — Mt. Vernon played longball in claiming a Division II Central District title and ending Teays Valley’s season 18-1 in six innings Monday.
The Yellow Jackets (25-4) hit seven home runs in the contest led by Hailey Rudrick who hit a two-run homer in the first, a solo shot in the fourth and another two-run homer in the sixth.
Of Mt. Vernon’s other long balls, Gabby Beck had a solo home in the fourth while Lexi Ringwalt, Layla Joyner and Keely Pollard all hit two-run blasts in the sixth.
The Yellow Jackets showed what got them to the state title game last year in pounding out 19 hits.
Teays Valley’s lone run came on a solo home run from Makayla Jones in the first inning.
Jersey Jackson had a first-inning single for Teays Valley’s only other hit.
MV’s Jocelyn Scarbury, a First-Team All-Ohio selection as a pitcher last season, didn’t allow a Viking on base after that in facing the minimum over the last five innings. She struck out five with no walks.
Ellie Powell started for TV but went only into the first part of the second inning as she gave up six hits and six runs (five earned) while striking out one.
Marleigh Adkins came on and pitched four innings giving up eight runs (six earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts. Sydney Brumfield came on in the sixth and gave up four runs (three earned) on three hits with a strikeout.
The Vikings wrap up the season with a 21-7 record.
