Three county girls hoops players earn All-Ohio honors

A trio of Pickaway County girls basketball players were honored this week by earning All-Ohio honors on the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association teams.

In Division II, Circleville senior Kenzie McConnell earned first-team honors for a second consecutive season.

The Southeast District showed its strength by landing three players on the 11-player team. McConnell was joined on the first-team by senior Morgan Bentley of state runner-up Vinton County and junior Faith Stinson of regional runner-up Sheridan.

McConnell, who averaged a double-double of 20.1 points and 11 rebounds per game, was also the district’s player of the year for a second consecutive season, sharing the honor with Stinson.

Vinton County coach Rod Bentley was the state coach of the year for leading the Vikings to the state tournament for the first time in school history in any sport.

Circleville senior Jaylah Captain earned honorable mention honors for a second consecutive season. Captain averaged 10 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game before suffering a torn ACL injury midway through the season.

The Tigers won the Mid-State League Buckeye Division for a second consecutive season and appeared in a district final for the third-straight season.

In Division III, Westfall senior Mahaley Farmer earned honorable mention honors after averaging 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds.

The Mustangs won 15 games this past season and finished tied for second in the Scioto Valley Conference.

The state prep sports writers association will announce boys All-Ohio honors next week.
