Monday’s roundup: CHS baseball holds off Teays Valley

Circleville held off a late charge by visiting Teays Valley on Monday to capture a 12-9 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win.
The Tigers entered the fifth with a commanding 7-0 lead, but the Vikings cut their deficit to 10-5 through five and 10-9 entering the bottom of the sixth. Circleville pushed across a pair of insurance runs in its half of the sixth to secure the win.
Wyatt Thatcher went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored to help lead the Tigers, Tate DeBord turned in a 2-for-3 evening with a pair of RBI, Evan Justice also went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored and Jack Holcomb was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
Mike Vandagriff allowed four hits and four runs (one earned) over four innings to take the win.
Tommy Williams paced the Vikings by going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored and Peyton Weiler was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and scored.
The Vikings (11-6, 7-3) travel to Briggs today for a non-league game and the Tigers (10-7, 6-4) continue league play on Wednesday when they travel to league-leading Bloom-Carroll.
Logan Elm 15,
Hamilton Township 2

Logan Elm pounded out a dozen hits on Monday as it rolled to a 15-2 MSL-Buckeye win over visiting Hamilton Township in five innings.
The Braves led 5-0 after two innings and 9-1 through three.
Caleb Eplin went 3-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored for the Braves, Brody MacDonald was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Braylen Baker and Jeremy Wietelmann contributed two hits, scored twice and drove in tow runs apiece.
Garrett Summers earned the win for the Braves, allowing four hits and two earned runs over five innings. He walked two and struck out six.
The Braves (4-14, 2-8) continue league play on Wednesday at Fairfield Union.
Westfall 14,
Piketon 4

Westfall scored in each of its four at-bats on Monday en route to a 14-1 Scioto Valley Conference win over visiting Piketon in five innings.
The Mustangs led 4-0 after two and 8-0 going into the fourth.
Hunter McCoy was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to help lead the Mustangs, Titan Williams was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored and Luke Blackburn went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Peyton Weiss allowed three hits and an unearned run over five frames. He walked three and struck out nine Redstreaks.
The Mustangs (11-5, 9-1) host Southeastern on Wednesday for a conference tilt.
Softball
Amanda-Clearcreek 10,
Fairfield Union 0

Paige Alford tossed a four-hitter on Monday to send Amanda-Clearcreek to a 10-0 MSL-Buckeye win over visiting Fairfield Union in six innings.
The A-C senior walked a batter and punched out six Falcons.
Alford was equally as impressive at the dish, hitting a pair of home runs and driving in five runs.
The Aces scored once in the first, three times in the third and then blew the game open with a five-run fourth.
Liberty Hooper and Logann Julian each had two hits, two RBI and scored twice and Carly Singleton also contributed a pair of base knocks, drove in a run and scored three times.
The Aces (11-3, 7-3) travel to Teays Valley on Wednesday to continue league play.
Teays Valley 13,
Circleville 2

Teays Valley scored in all five of its at-bats on Monday to defeat host Circleville 13-2 in a five-inning MSL-Buckeye game.
Faith Thompson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with four RBI and two runs scored, Emma Helwagen was 3-for-4 and scored three times and Alexis Brown was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
Madison Cline allowed three hits and a pair of unearned runs over four innings to take the win. She walked a batter and struck out six.
Michael went 2-for-3 to lead the Tigers.
The Vikings (13-4, 8-2) host Amanda-Clearcreek on Wednesday to continue league play and the Tigers travel to Bloom-Carroll.
Logan Elm defeated Hamilton Township
Westfall 13,
Piketon 3

Delana Landefeld claimed the win in the pitching circle in a 13-3 Westfall win over visiting Piketon in a five-inning SVC game.
Landefeld was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Makayla Cook went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Abbie Bickenhauser added a two-run homer for the Mustangs (16-5, 8-2), who travel to Southeastern on Wednesday for a conference game.
